In Tension

This work attempts to capture the suspense of a moment. It explores the ways in which systems of materials such as concrete, wood, and metal, interact with the viewer, as well as the utilitarian history they carry with them. I am interested in the tension within this work, between the materials themselves and the space they exist in. Invoking themes of gravity, momentum, tension, constraint, and compression these sculptures and installations share a suspended moment in time with the viewer. These works exist with a technical proficiency that breaks expectations of what these materials are and what they can become. I let the qualities of the material determine where and how I manipulate its form.
